Stand Up Paddleboarding - 'A Paddler's Guide'
A new publication, is well underway and due for release early in 2010.
This book will draw upon the 20 years of research which was invested in the study of outrigger canoeing in the Pacific. Surfing and Outrigger Canoeing share a close synergy to bring together many of the skills required for Stand Up Paddleboarding. Aided by some of the world's leading exponents, this will be a unique and demystifying publication, which aims to bring some clarity a sound technical advice regarding paddle and board techniques and skills and consideration of the plethora of equipment pervading the market; currently everyone's an expert and every bit of kit, better than the next; which simply isn't true. Development of Good Practice Guide
For Stand Up Paddling Boarding (AALA UK)
Working with the Adventure Licensing Authority UK in creating a 'Good Practice Guide' (Safe Practice) for the instruction / coaching of Stand Up Paddleboarding within the United Kingdom. As a consequence of the creation of this important document, which has had input and viewing by Todd Bradley of Hawai`i one of the contemporary founders of this rediscovered art and John Hibbard a UK and European Champion Stand Up Paddleboarder, it is hoped that a sound coaching methodology and structure can be created under the umbrella of the British Stand Up Paddle Association.
'The Adventure Activities Licensing Scheme (UK) is a Government sponsored scheme, which was introduced in 1996 under the Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations. The scheme ensures that those who provide certain adventure activities to young people under the age of 18 years, will have their safety management systems inspected. Where appropriate, a licence is then issued.
On 1st April 2007, and as a result of widespread government regulatory reorganisation, the responsibility for implementing the regulations was transferred to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The organisation that carries out inspections and issues licences on the HSE's behalf is the Adventure Activities Licensing Service.'
