Sue Hornby, British Canoe Union Development Officer, invited me to hold a master class for some of the Royal Canoe Clubs Members (April 2010) the oldest Canoe Club in the world, established 1866. Outrigger canoeing introduced in the mid 70s. The club has entered crews in the Molokai Hoe and a variety of other overseas events. -
BSUPA Nationals
Held from Watergate Beach, Newquay - Cornwall, the 2009 6km distance race began with a 150m sprint down the beach then a punch out through a 3-5' closed out shore break...making for interesting spectating and the toughest part of the race. -

Marlin Coast Challenge 2008

ManaV6 Fiji. Herb Kane's 'Takia' gets a make-over.
The Mana V.6 - SPG 07 Edition was put through trials on Saturday 12 May, 2007. The original hull (Takia V.6) was designed by artist-historian and author, Herb Kawainui Kane (elected Living Treasure of Hawaii, 1984) who based the design on his research into traditional Fijian & South Pacific canoe design. -
Fiji Dreaming
Paddling the cobalt blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, the lads from Kai Wai Canoe Club, Suva, Fiji, decide to do a 'paddle-back; from Leleuvia Island [www.leleuvia.com] a distance of 84km on the nose most of the way, taking over 8 hours with 1 stop to fix zips on the covers. -

In 2006 Australian paddlers Travis Grant and Mike Murray, two of Australia's finest, stumbled upon professional photographer 'Bob Coello' [http://www.artofwomen.com] who happened to be following the race in his inflatable.These are the photos which resulted. -
Aussie Women 2003 Va`ahine Race Tahiti
In 2003, a crew composed predominenty of Aussie women travelled to Tahiti and the island of Raitea to participate in the women's leg of the Hawaiki Nui Va`a race, a 42km change race which leaves and returns from the island of Raitea. -
Retro Hamilton Cup
The beginnings of outrigger canoeing in Australia in 1978 up to the first ever Hamilton Island race, billed 'The Queensland Outrigger Titles' in which Walter Guild and Hank Lass attended. In 1984 the first official Hamilton Cup race was run. -
Jaws
In November of 2002, I was on the island of Maui to photograph Brian Mulvaney's wedding. As it turned out, the swells rolled in and we rolled out for a photo session at the infamous 'Jaws' break. Over the next few days the wave face grew to some 50'; we are there at the modest end of the scale, maybe at 20'.
