Deep in a hot languid rainforest, on the Pacific island of Huahine, the air dense with the smells of smoke from village fires and the fragrance of lush vegatation, there is a gathering, a ceremony. The felling of bread-fruit tree, which has long served the community, will perish and be reborn as a va`a, to continue to serve the community in another form. It's a time of sadness and celebration. Aussie paddlers enjoy success at the Kauai Challenge Relay. Amanda Ozolins/Lisa Curry-Kenny win the Open Womens OC1 division, Danny Sheard/Mike Mills-Tom finish 5th OC1 overall, 1st in 40-49 year age group, Katrina Sullivan paddling with Hawaiian personality and ultra distance paddling star Donna Kahakui win the Master Womens division, Andy Wheatley/Dave Schloss finish 3rd in 20-29 OC1 division, Mat Carter with Cheryl Skribe finish 3rd in the Mixed OC1 division.
