Well it has been a couple of big days. The Kauai World Challenge Relay was fantastic fun although fairly small swell, but perfect for us Aussies. Everyone did very well and had great races.

Lisa Curry-Kenny and I won the womens division by 7 mins, but it was still a tough race. We started 20 mins ahead of mixed crews and 40 mins ahead of the men and OC2s. I did the 1st and 3rd legs, so had to start and lead. A bit nerve racking but I had studied the maps and some great local advice, and 3 mins into it was leading with Donna (Katrina Sullivan's partner) but she hadn't done the race before either and wasn't a local.
Came into the first change a few seconds ahead of her. Lisa and I then continued to build a good lead, but it was always stressful not knowing where the other Hawaiian chicks where and knowing they are super surfers. So we led and were on our own until the end of the 3rd leg when a couple of men's OC2s finally caught me. It was really nice to finally have some locals to follow! Katrina's team came in 5th I think but would have been 1st masters team.
Andy [Wheatley] and Sloshi [Dave Schloss] had a great race too and finished 13th and got awarded 3rd in 20-29 Men. Andy is stoked as this is the first big thing he has won!! Andy had a bad start, but was ecstatic about the 3rd leg and loved it and passed 8 people. Strange because everyone else including me hated it as it was a huge washing machine for most of the long leg.
Danny Sheard and Mike Mills-Tom did great and came 5th overall.
It was a great party in the park for the rest of the afternoon with food and beer and meeting lots of great people! Also pretended I was a rock star for a day and did a couple of TV interviews! Very funny and surreal!
This morning we had the OC6 mixed race over about 12 miles. It was a very flat race with little wind and most people where hung-over. We came 4th across the line and 2nd mixed crew. We had the speed but died half way and pottered at a stroke rate of about 36 due to tough steering conditions, exhaustion, heat, and some hang-overs.
More later.
Aloha, Amanda.
